Outreach Initiatives

Over the years Good Samaritan has been involved in reaching out to the community and responding where there is a need. We support several community groups with time, talent and treasure, including The Gathering, a community of street people that worship together each Sunday in downtown Dallas, and Sanger Elementary, our adopted school. We are especially committed to ministry to children and those who are hungry.

Back-to-School Sunday
Blessing of the Backpacks

What a great Back-to-School Sunday we had!  We prayed over and celebrated all of our students, teachers and staff members who are beginning a new school year.  Sanger Principal, Hector Martinez, spoke to us of all that is happening at our adopted school and let us know the many options for volunteering at Sanger.  If you'd like to serve at Sanger, please contact Volunteer Liaison Carolina Cerrillo at

Lenten Service
Collection of Groceries for Sanger Weekend Meal Program

Many thanks to all who contributed to our Lenten Collection of pasta, sauce and peanut butter for the Sanger Weekend Meal Program.  These items were sent home with families so they would have them over the Spring Break.  The staff and families of Sanger are so grateful for our offerings.  Pictured are students from Bishop Lynch HS who helped Mtr. Mary unload the items.  These students come to Sanger each week to tutor students in reading.  Sanger could use more tutors!  If you are interested in finding out more about being a tutor at Sanger, please contact Mtr. Mary at the church office.

Thank you, again, for your generosity!

Sanger Angels

Ho, ho, ho!  Thanks to your generosity, ALL of our Christmas Sanger Angels were adopted.  The school staff and families were THRILLED to have these gifts for their children.  Our relationship with Sanger not only allows us to assist students and families most in need but it gives us the opportunity to live out our call to reflect Christ's love to the world.  Thank you so much for helping to fulfill the Christmas wishes of a Sanger Angel!

                                                                                           The Gathering

What a great event we had with The Gathering community in November!  The weather was a little chilly, but we were warmed by the worship and gratitude of these folks.  Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen - from those who grocery shopped to those who came to make 100 sack lunches on Saturday, to those who joined us for worship and to distribute lunch on Sunday.  Participating in worship and listening to some of these folks' stories was very impactful.  We are grateful for the opportunity to support this congregation of folks from the streets.  Look for our next opportunity to serve them during Lent.
